The much-anticipated Merseyside Derby between Liverpool and Everton, scheduled for 6:30 PM today in the Premier League, has been postponed due to severe weather conditions. Everton had made all the preparations to host their city rivals at Goodison Park, but the match had to be called off in light of the natural disaster. Both clubs confirmed the postponement.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Everton announced, “Today’s Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions.” Liverpool echoed this, stating, “We can confirm that today’s Premier League match against Everton at Goodison Park has been postponed.”

According to several British media outlets, citing the Met Office, Storm Arwen is expected to bring winds reaching speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour in Merseyside and surrounding areas, creating significant safety concerns. As a result, several scheduled matches have been canceled.

In addition to the Everton-Liverpool clash, the Championship fixtures between Cardiff and Watford, and Plymouth and Oxford have also been postponed. Similarly, League One matches between Bristol Rovers and Bolton Wanderers have been called off.

Currently, Liverpool tops the Premier League table with 35 points from 14 matches (11 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss). Chelsea sits second with 28 points, tied with Arsenal but ahead on goal difference. Everton, Liverpool’s local rivals, are in 15th place with 14 points from the same number of games.
