After their second win, the French champions are currently in 24th place in the Champions League standings. Their fate for advancing to the knockout rounds is still not in their own hands, so Luis Enrique doesn’t see much reason to celebrate after defeating Salzburg. He has warned the players that without improvement, their Champions League campaign could end in the early stages.

The French side won 3-0 on Tuesday night in the sixth round of the Champions League’s group stage.

After starting with a victory, PSG found themselves on the brink of elimination following three losses and one draw. With 7 points from their win over Salzburg, they are in 24th place, but several teams behind them have a chance to surpass them. Having experienced defeats to Atlético Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal, Enrique is well aware of the situation and has urged the team to improve.

“Football is a very unfair game. The points table is very tight. Even one goal can make a difference. We still have two important matches ahead. We can still be knocked out.”

Enrique added, “This wasn’t any better than our games against PSV Eindhoven or Atlético Madrid. In fact, I’d say it was worse. But that’s football; we know we need to improve, and there hasn’t been much change in the squad. We need the points, and we’ll try to win the next games.”

In their next Champions League match, PSG will face Manchester City on January 22, followed by a game against VfB Stuttgart seven days later.

“The points we should have had, we don’t. Scoring today was crucial because even one goal could see us eliminated from the Champions League. We need to take it match by match, and now we have City ahead.”
