The day before, Marcus Rashford stated he was “ready for a new challenge,” sparking speculation about his future at Manchester United. However, head coach Ruben Amorim is not taking the situation lightly.

Rashford’s comment has fueled discussions about his uncertain position at the club, especially since his spot in the starting XI is no longer guaranteed. Despite the growing uncertainty, the newly appointed United coach has expressed his desire to keep the English forward in the squad.

On Sunday, United celebrated a thrilling 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League, but Rashford was left out of the lineup. His absence raised eyebrows, and just two days later, in an interview with football writer Henry Winter, Rashford shared his thoughts about potentially moving on.

“If I feel the situation has become bad, I won’t make it worse. I’ve seen how players have left in the past, and I don’t want to be one of them,” he said.

“When I leave, I’ll make a statement, and it will come from me.”

Rashford last appeared in United’s starting XI in the 4-0 win against Everton earlier this December, where he scored twice. Yet, his continued exclusion from the lineup in subsequent matches has surprised many, including the 27-year-old forward himself.

This frustration seemed to be reflected in his comments, intensifying rumors of a potential transfer. However, coach Ruben Amorim appeared calm about the situation. Ahead of United’s League Cup quarter-final clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, Amorim emphasized Rashford’s importance to the team.

“I don’t want to talk about the future; we’ll focus on the present,” Amorim said.

“A club of this size needs top-level, talented players, and he is one of them. He just needs to perform at the highest level, and that’s where my full attention lies. I’m here to help Marcus in any way I can.”

When asked about Rashford’s desire for a new challenge, Amorim responded, “In my opinion, that’s fine. We’re facing a new and tough challenge here as a team.”
