The court has rejected Barcelona’s appeal to extend the registration of Spanish forward Dani Olmo until the end of the season, raising uncertainty about his participation in the second half of the campaign.

Olmo joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig in last summer’s transfer window for a fee of €57 million. Despite his return to the club after nearly a decade, Barcelona faced difficulties registering him in La Liga due to ongoing financial troubles.

After Andreas Christensen was sidelined with a long-term injury, Olmo was granted temporary registration until December 31. Barcelona appealed to the court to extend his registration, but ESPN reported on Friday that the appeal has been denied.

This situation is not new for Barcelona. In 2023, the club faced similar issues when registering midfielder Gavi with the first team, although the court ruled in their favor at the time. The unfavorable ruling this time comes as a surprise.

Barcelona’s annual spending cap in La Liga has been set at €426 million for this season. The club has exceeded this limit, leading to restrictions on registering new players.

So far this season, the 26-year-old Olmo has made 15 appearances across all competitions for Barcelona, scoring six goals.
