Lionel Messi, who has spent most of his life in Spain, is now venturing into the real estate business in the country. The Argentine World Cup-winning captain is expanding his investment portfolio through a real estate investment trust.

Messi’s real estate investment trust, named Edificio Rostower Socimi, has officially entered the Spanish market. Each share is priced at €57.4, which is over 7,000 BDT. In total, the trust has a market capitalization of €223 million (2,784.37 crore BDT).

According to one of the world’s leading stock exchange portfolios, Messi is the chairman of the investment board, while the sole shareholder is his family’s investment vehicle, Limecu España 2010. Edificio Rostower Socimi owns seven hotels in Spain and Andorra, three office spaces, and five apartments in Spain, along with residential properties in London and Paris.

Santiago Navarro, CEO of Portfolio Stock Exchange, revealed that Messi’s company is planning to attract new investors focused on Spain’s Catalonia region, where Messi lived for over two decades in its capital, Barcelona.

Navarro explained, “Messi’s exchange was launched in 2023 and is supervised by Spain’s central bank, Banco de España. The central bank only grants business approval when the company aims to sell shares or increase its capital.”

The investment trust, established in 2013, reported €1.7 million (21.22 crore BDT) in earnings last year, which prompted a careful approach to further business expansion.

While Messi serves as the chairman, his playing commitments mean he doesn’t dedicate much time to this venture. The trust is primarily managed by his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, who holds the position of vice-chairperson. Other board members include Alfonso Nebot, who oversees Messi’s family office, and Ramon Adell, a board member of Naturgy, a Spanish natural gas and electric utility company.

Messi, a record eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, is currently playing for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS). His contract with the club runs until December 31 this year. Messi has previously stated that he plans to return to Barcelona with his family after retiring from professional football.
