Manchester City’s English defender Kyle Walker wants to experience playing for a club outside of England.

After a long association with Manchester City, Walker wishes to move to a new destination. He has already informed the English club of his desire. Coach Pep Guardiola confirmed this, saying that Walker wants to gain experience playing in a league outside of England.

On Saturday, City crushed Salford 8-0 in the FA Cup to reach the fourth round. Despite having no injury issues, Walker was not included in the matchday squad.

During a post-match press conference, Guardiola addressed the topic of Walker’s omission from the team. He revealed the reason when asked about it:

“Two days ago, Kyle mentioned his desire to play in a foreign league and end his career there. That’s why I prioritized playing others.”

After City’s treble-winning season in 2023, Walker received an offer from German giants Bayern Munich. Guardiola also explained why he didn’t accept the offer:

“Two years ago, after the treble win, he had an offer from Bayern Munich, but the offer wasn’t good enough.”

Walker joined City from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017 and has played 319 matches for the club. He has won six Premier League titles, one Champions League, and 17 other trophies with City.

However, this season, Walker has struggled to secure a regular spot in the team. He has played 18 matches in all competitions, starting just nine in the Premier League.

Guardiola acknowledged Walker’s significant contributions, both to City and the England national team:

“Our success over the years wouldn’t have been possible without Kyle. It’s unimaginable.”

“He wants to gain experience at a new club. That doesn’t mean it will happen because no one knows what the future holds. I respect him a lot because he’s been with us for many years, and I’m grateful. He’s important for the national team and for us as well.”
