Barcelona 5 – 2 Real Madrid

Barcelona scored a total of 9 goals against Real Madrid across two consecutive Clasicos. After the disappointment of their previous Clasico, they started strong with a brilliant goal from Kylian Mbappé, giving Real Madrid a brief hope. But in typical fashion, Barcelona dominated the game, quickly turning it into a goal-fest. Despite having one fewer player in the second half, Carlo Ancelotti’s side couldn’t come up with a dramatic response. Barcelona triumphed once again in the Clasico, reclaiming the Spanish Super Cup title.

In Sunday night’s final in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Barcelona secured a 5-2 victory over Real Madrid under coach Hansi Flick, extending their record for the most Super Cup titles to 15.

In their previous Clasico in October, Barcelona had defeated Real Madrid 4-0 with four goals in the second half at the Santiago Bernabéu. This time, despite falling behind early, Barcelona took control of the match, scoring four goals in the first half and making it 5-1 shortly after the break. Real Madrid managed to pull one back through Rodrigo, but with their goalkeeper Voycheck Stancsni sent off, they couldn’t mount a comeback.

The goals came from the usual suspects: Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal, with Raphinha bagging a brace. This was the first time in history that Barcelona scored at least four goals in consecutive Clasicos in all competitions, something that hadn’t been seen since 1963 when Real Madrid themselves scored five goals in a 5-1 and 4-0 win.

After losing to Real Madrid 4-1 in last season’s Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia, Barcelona took sweet revenge this time, securing a resounding victory.

Barcelona created their first chance in the second minute, with a shot from Yamal saved by Thibaut Courtois. In the fourth minute, Raphinha’s header from Gavi’s cross was also denied by the Belgian goalkeeper.

Real Madrid took the lead in the 6th minute with a superb goal from Mbappé, assisted by Vinícius Júnior. However, Barcelona responded in the 22nd minute when Yamal, after receiving a pass from Lewandowski, scored a brilliant goal to level the match.

In the 36th minute, Lewandowski put Barcelona ahead with a successful penalty after Eduardo Camavinga fouled Gavi in the box. Three minutes later, Raphinha scored another header, making it 3-1 for Barcelona. Just before halftime, Alejandro Baldé added a fourth with a brilliant finish, making the scoreline 4-1.

In the second half, Barcelona continued their dominance. Raphinha added a second goal early on, making it 5-1. Real Madrid’s Stancsni was sent off in the 56th minute for a foul on Mbappé, and Rodrigo’s goal from the ensuing free kick reduced the deficit to 5-2.

Despite Real Madrid’s efforts, they could not find another goal, and Barcelona celebrated their Super Cup victory in the final whistle. This marked a perfect start to the new year for Barcelona, with their first three matches of the year resulting in victories, giving coach Hansi Flick his first major trophy with the club.
