Dennis Law, the only Scottish player to win the Ballon d’Or, has passed away at the age of 84. He succumbed to a long battle with physical ailments. The former Manchester United star striker took his last breath on Saturday, as confirmed by his family. He had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease since 2021.

Law, who spent 11 years at Old Trafford, was widely known as “The King,” though some referred to him as “The L-man.”

In his time with United, Law played 404 matches across all competitions, scoring 237 goals. Only Wayne Rooney and Bobby Charlton have scored more goals for the club in its history.

During his illustrious career at the Premier League’s most successful club, Law won league titles in 1964-65 and 1966-67, as well as the European Cup in 1968. He also tasted FA Cup glory during his time at United.

Law began his professional career with Huddersfield Town in England. After stints at Manchester City and Italian club Torino, he joined Manchester United.

For Scotland, Law made 55 appearances, scoring 30 goals, a joint national record. He also achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the only Scottish player to win the Ballon d’Or in 1964.

Throughout his career, Law was sold three times for British record fees.
