Barcelona has received a blow ahead of a crucial match with Benfica due to the injury of Dani Olmo. The Spanish winger will not feature in the Champions League tie against Benfica.

Barcelona announced the news on Sunday that Olmo will be unavailable for the upcoming match.

Olmo is suffering from a muscle injury. He played 28 minutes as a substitute in the second half of Saturday’s La Liga match against Getafe, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

After the game, the 26-year-old Olmo mentioned discomfort in his right lower leg. Subsequent tests revealed a strain.

This isn’t the first time this season that Olmo has suffered a muscle injury, which has kept him out of several matches.

So far this season, Olmo has played 18 matches across all competitions, scoring 6 goals and contributing to 3 assists.

Barcelona will face Benfica away on Tuesday. In the new-look Champions League format, Hansi Flick’s team currently sits second in their group with 15 points from five wins in six matches.
