Feyenoord Rotterdam 3 – 0 Bayern Munich

Feyenoord kept their hopes of making the top eight alive with a commanding victory over German giants Bayern Munich.

Bayern paid a heavy price for missed chances and defensive errors, while Feyenoord delivered a memorable performance with solid defense and a dynamic attack.

On Wednesday night, in a Champions League match at home, Feyenoord secured a 3-0 win. Santiago Giménez was the standout performer with a brace, and Ayase Ueda added a late goal to seal the victory.

The scoreline, however, doesn’t reflect the match dynamics. Bayern controlled nearly 80% possession, taking 30 shots, but only six were on target. In contrast, Feyenoord had eight shots, three of which found the net.

The game was briefly halted for eight minutes due to dense smoke at the start. After play resumed, Giménez had an early chance in the 9th minute but was denied.

In the 21st minute, Feyenoord stunned Bayern. A long ball from their half by Quilindschy Hartman found Giménez, who controlled it beautifully and finished with a powerful strike. The stadium erupted in celebration.

Two minutes later, Leon Goretzka missed a golden chance to equalize, heading wide from Dayot Upamecano’s cross.

Bayern created several opportunities but struggled to capitalize. Jamal Musiala missed a left-footed shot in the 32nd minute, and Kingsley Coman’s effort a minute later was saved by goalkeeper Justin Bijlow. Goretzka and Michael Olise also failed to hit the target in promising positions.

Harry Kane, too, squandered a close-range opportunity in the 42nd minute, shooting straight at the keeper.

In added time of the first half, Bayern’s relentless attacks were blocked repeatedly, with Upamecano’s shot narrowly missing the post. Alphonso Davies was then forced off due to injury, and his replacement, Raphaël Guerreiro, conceded a penalty. Giménez converted the spot-kick, doubling Feyenoord’s lead just before halftime.

In the second half, Bijlow continued to shine, denying Kane’s close-range shot in the 54th minute and stopping Musiala and Goretzka’s headers soon after.

While Bayern’s wastefulness persisted, Feyenoord capitalized in the 89th minute. A counter-attack saw Antony Milambo set up Ueda, who calmly slotted home to make it 3-0.

Feyenoord now sits in 11th place with 13 points from seven matches, keeping their top-eight hopes alive.

Bayern’s chances, however, have taken a hit. After three consecutive wins, this loss drops Vincent Kompany’s side to 15th place with 12 points from seven matches.
