Neymar’s Al-Hilal journey comes to an end after just seven matches and a single goal in one and a half years.

According to multiple reports, the 32-year-old Brazilian star is set to return to his boyhood club, Santos, after reportedly agreeing to a significant pay cut of $25–30 million.

The first part of the rumors surrounding Neymar has turned out to be true—his bond with Al-Hilal is now officially over. As for the second part, a return to Santos seems to be only a matter of time.

On Sunday, Al-Hilal announced via social media that they had mutually terminated Neymar’s contract. The Saudi Pro League champions also wished him the best for the future.

For Neymar, this chapter of his career is likely one he’d prefer to forget. Both Saudi football and the club’s fans received very little from the star forward during his time there.

After joining Al-Hilal from PSG in August 2023, Neymar’s journey quickly derailed when he suffered a severe knee injury while playing for Brazil. The injury sidelined him for over a year, during which he also gained weight. Following a lengthy rehabilitation, Neymar returned to the pitch in October but was soon sidelined again with a hamstring injury.

Recently, Al-Hilal coach Jorge Jesus hinted that Neymar was free to explore other opportunities. Now, it’s official—he won’t be returning to the field for the Saudi club.

In his nearly 18 months at Al-Hilal, Neymar managed just seven matches and a single goal.

Reports suggest Neymar will finalize his move to Santos within the next couple of days. Initially, he’s expected to sign a six-month deal, with an option to extend it for an additional year.

According to ESPN Brazil, Neymar has made significant financial concessions to facilitate this move. By leaving Al-Hilal, he’s giving up $25–30 million of the $65 million he was set to earn.

Santos is expected to officially welcome Neymar this Thursday or Friday.

Neymar’s history with Santos is deeply rooted. He joined the club’s academy at the age of 11, chasing his football dreams. At 17, he made his professional debut for the club, and by 2010, his exceptional performances earned him a spot on Brazil’s national team.

In 2013, Neymar left Santos for Barcelona, where he formed a legendary attacking trio with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. During his time there, he won a Champions League title, two La Liga trophies, and three Copa del Reys.

In 2017, Neymar set a world-record transfer fee of €222 million when he moved to PSG. Over six years, he helped the club secure five Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups, and two League Cups. In 2023, he joined Al-Hilal in a deal worth $97.6 million.

Now, after a rollercoaster career filled with highs, lows, hopes, and disappointments, Neymar is set to return to his beloved Santos, the club where his journey began.
