Brazilian midfielder Casemiro wants more playing time.

His form has not been the same as before, and he has lost his place in the starting XI. Speculation is growing that he may leave Manchester United next summer. However, Casemiro insists he wants to stay at Old Trafford until the end of his contract.

Casemiro started in United’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday. Under manager Ruben Amorim, he had to settle for a bench role in 10 of the previous 11 league matches.

United, going through a tough season, has dropped to 15th place in the Premier League.

In an interview with Spanish outlet AS on Monday, Casemiro said he wants to play more.

“Of course, I want to play more. I don’t know any player who doesn’t want to play. Right now, I want to help the club. I face everything with respect for my teammates, staff, and, above all, Manchester United.”

Casemiro’s contract at United runs until June 2026, and the midfielder, who turns 33 next Sunday, is enjoying his time at the historic club.

“I have a year and a half left on my contract, and I want to stay in Manchester. I feel comfortable here, and my family does too. They’ve adjusted, and we speak English. I’m very grateful to the supporters and the club. I’m happy at the club. Am I happy sitting on the bench? Of course not, that’s a different matter.”

Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in August 2022, after playing a pivotal role in Real’s success. During his nine years at the Spanish club, he won five Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles, forming a remarkable midfield trio with Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos.

However, Casemiro has often faced criticism for his performances at United, with some believing his best years are behind him.

“I still have a lot to give. I’m about to turn 33, but I feel like I’m still 28. If you maintain proper nutrition, stay physically prepared, and take care of yourself, a player’s career can be extended. That’s why Cristiano (Ronaldo) is still scoring 50 goals every season at 40.”
