Like Cole Palmer, Chelsea is also going through a tough spell.

The young winger had a flying start after joining Chelsea a year and a half ago. In his debut season, he dazzled with goals, quickly becoming one of the team’s standout players. However, he has struggled to find the net recently. Despite his goal drought, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca insists it hasn’t affected Palmer’s confidence.

Palmer made the switch from Manchester City to Chelsea in September 2023. In his first season, he scored 27 goals across all competitions, including 22 in the Premier League, making him the league’s second-highest scorer. He also provided 15 assists.

The 22-year-old started this season well, but his goals have dried up in recent weeks. He has now gone eight matches without scoring, missing a few clear chances along the way.

Palmer has netted 14 goals so far this season, but Chelsea, like him, has struggled lately. Since December, the team has lost more games than they’ve won in domestic competitions. They will face Leicester City in their next league match on Sunday, a crucial game as they look to bounce back.

When asked about Palmer’s lack of goals in Friday’s press conference, Maresca made it clear that the player remains unfazed.

“A player feels happy when he scores because goals help the team win. But overall, Cole is doing fine. He’s happy.”

“He knows he’s struggling to score right now, but that’s normal at some point in a season. If you watch him in training, you’ll see that it hasn’t affected him at all.”

Chelsea currently sits fifth in the league table with 46 points from 27 matches, 21 points behind leaders Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Leicester is in 19th place with just 17 points from the same number of games.
