Ángel Correa has received a major suspension! The Atlético Madrid forward has been handed a five-match ban for insulting the referee during a La Liga match against Getafe.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced the decision on Wednesday.

The incident took place last Sunday when Atlético Madrid lost 2-1 to Getafe. In the 88th minute, Correa received a direct red card for fouling defender Djene.

Referee Cuadra Fernández, after reviewing the incident with VAR, sent off the Argentine forward. In his match report, the referee stated that Correa repeatedly insulted him, detailing the offensive remarks in his official report.

According to the RFEF, Correa received a one-match ban for the red card itself, while the remaining four matches were added due to his verbal abuse of the referee.

As a result, the 30-year-old forward will miss Atlético Madrid’s next five domestic games, including key La Liga clashes against Barcelona, Espanyol, Sevilla, and Valladolid, as well as the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Barcelona.

So far this season, Correa has scored seven goals in 38 appearances across all competitions.
