With both teams’ appeals rejected, the rescheduled La Liga match will go ahead as planned.
Barcelona and Osasuna had hoped for a change in the fixture, but their appeal was denied. The match, which was postponed due to the sudden death of Barcelona’s team doctor, Carles Minarro Garcia, will now take place on the newly announced date. As a result, Barcelona is unlikely to have Raphinha and Ronald Araujo available for the game.
Originally, the match was set to be played at Barcelona’s home ground on March 8. However, just hours before kickoff, Dr. Minarro Garcia passed away at the team hotel. By then, both teams had already arrived at the stadium. The game was officially postponed just 20 minutes before its scheduled start.
On Monday, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed that the match would now take place on March 27.
Both Barcelona and Osasuna appealed against this decision, but RFEF rejected their requests.
Brazil and Uruguay will play their second and final World Cup qualifier matches of the month on March 25. This means that Brazilian forward Raphinha and Uruguayan defender Araujo may not be available for Barcelona in the game against Osasuna.
Osasuna was originally scheduled to face Athletic Bilbao away on March 28. That match has now been moved to March 30.
After 27 matches, Barcelona leads La Liga with 60 points, the same as Real Madrid, who are second due to their head-to-head record. Atletico Madrid sits third with 56 points, though both Madrid clubs have played one game more than Barcelona.
Osasuna, meanwhile, sits 14th in the table with 33 points from 27 matches.
