Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso wants to reduce the gap with Bayern Munich to just three points by defeating Bochum.

Leverkusen has fallen a bit behind in their quest to defend the league title, but coach Alonso isn’t giving up just yet. He plans to keep fighting until the end, focusing on his team’s performance and applying pressure on Bayern Munich, who currently sit at the top.

With only 8 rounds remaining in the Bundesliga, Leverkusen is in second place with 56 points from 16 wins and 8 draws after 26 matches. Bayern leads with 6 more points.

The gap between Leverkusen and Bayern is tough to close, but it’s not impossible. Alonso wants to keep pushing forward. His team faces Bochum on Friday, and a win would bring them within three points of Bayern, which is Alonso’s goal for the match.

“It’s clear what we need to do, and that is to fight until the end. Our first chance to close the gap to three points with Bayern comes tomorrow.”

Alonso is determined not to let Bayern rest easy at the top.

“We want to put as much pressure as possible on them. If we win and take the three points, it will put us in a good position. We need to approach tomorrow’s match with this goal in mind.”

Leverkusen, who won the German Cup last season, is also in contention for the title again this year. On Tuesday, they will face third-tier side Arminia Bielefeld in the semi-finals of the competition.

“It’s almost April now. I said if we are in a good position by April, it will be time to fight for this opportunity. It won’t be easy, but we have the desire and ambition to succeed.”
