Thomas Müller is leaving Bayern Munich, marking the end of his remarkable 25-year journey with the club. The German forward has decided to depart after this season, ending an era that saw him become the club’s record-holder for the most appearances in competitive football.
Müller began his journey with Bayern at the age of 10 in 2000. After impressing in the youth ranks, he made his senior debut in 2008, and since then, he has never looked back. Over the course of his illustrious career, he has amassed 33 trophies, including 12 Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Champions League victories, with two treble wins.
In a heartfelt statement on Bayern’s website, Müller shared his thoughts:
“It’s clear that today is not just another day for me. My 25-year journey with Bayern Munich will end this summer. It has been an incredible journey with unforgettable experiences, fantastic battles, and incredible successes.”
“I am very grateful and happy to have built such a career at the club I love. My special relationship with this club and its amazing supporters will last forever.”
Müller’s record of 743 appearances across all competitions for Bayern is unparalleled. Despite his numerous achievements, his hunger for success remains strong. As he prepares to leave, he expressed his desire to win more titles, particularly the league trophy and a Champions League final at home.
“To bring the league trophy back to Munich and play in the Champions League final at our home stadium (Allianz Arena) in the coming weeks, we will give everything we have,” Müller said.
Bayern is currently in a strong position to reclaim the Bundesliga title, sitting at the top of the table with 68 points from 28 matches, 9 points ahead of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen. In the Champions League, they are preparing for their quarter-final clash against Inter Milan.
Müller’s journey with Bayern will conclude after the 2023 Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13.
