Paris Saint-Germain 1 – 0 Angers
With six rounds still remaining in the season, Luis Enrique now has the luxury to focus more on other competitions, having already secured the Ligue 1 title.
All PSG needed against Angers was to avoid defeat to clinch the title on home soil. The Parisian giants, vastly superior in quality, seemed determined to wrap things up with a goal fest. Despite a barrage of attacks and plenty of chances, Luis Enrique’s side couldn’t convert as many as expected. Still, they did enough to hold on to their Ligue 1 crown with a win.
In a one-sided match on Saturday, PSG secured a 1-0 victory. French forward Desire Doué scored the only goal early in the second half, taking PSG out of reach for their closest rivals on the points table.
It’s the club’s fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title and their 13th overall—no other French team has more than ten.
For over a decade now, PSG has dominated French football. They’ve won 11 of the last 13 league titles, asserting their status as the country’s top side.
PSG controlled nearly 85% of possession in the first half and attempted 11 shots, though only one was on target. In the 34th minute, Vitinha tested Angers goalkeeper Yahia Fofana from outside the box, but his effort was denied.
Right after halftime, PSG broke the deadlock. Doué found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Once ahead, PSG piled on more pressure. The attack became even more dangerous after in-form Ousmane Dembélé came off the bench, but they couldn’t extend their lead.
PSG remain unbeaten in the 18-team tournament, with 23 wins and five draws from 28 matches—earning them 74 points.
Monaco sits second with 51 points from one game fewer.
PSG is also eyeing two more trophies this season. They’ve reached the final of the French Cup and are in the Champions League quarterfinals, still chasing that elusive European crown.
Their next Champions League challenge is against English club Aston Villa, with the first leg of the quarterfinal set to be played in Paris on Wednesday.
