Inter Milan’s Italian midfielder Davide Frattesi dedicated his team’s important Champions League quarter-final win over Bayern Munich to his late grandmother.

The day before the crucial match, Frattesi received the heartbreaking news of his grandmother’s passing. Carrying that pain, the midfielder played a key role in Inter’s victory, with his last-minute goal sealing the win.

Inter triumphed 2-1 in the first leg of the quarter-finals at Allianz Arena on Tuesday. With the win, Frattesi dedicated the victory to his late grandmother, giving Inter a valuable edge in the fight for a semi-final spot.

Inter took the lead in the 38th minute through Lautaro Martínez. They held onto their advantage for a long period, but Bayern equalized late in the game. In the 85th minute, Bayern’s Thomas Müller leveled the score.

However, just three minutes later, the mood in the stadium shifted. Frattesi, who had come on as a substitute in the 74th minute, scored a precise shot off a cross from Karasellon Augusti, putting Inter back in the lead.

After the match, Frattesi shared his emotions with Inter TV, expressing both the joy of the victory and the pain of losing his grandmother.

“I’ve always thought my best quality is my mentality. I found myself in a situation where I couldn’t live my normal life.”

“I was very close to my grandmother, and I wasn’t used to seeing her this way. It was hard, but I know somehow she was with me tonight. Maybe she was cheering me on from above.”

The two teams will face off again in the return leg at Inter’s San Siro on April 16.
