Although he won’t be playing, the 39-year-old goalkeeper will travel to Milan to support his team.
Bayern Munich’s hopes have been dashed once again. The German side will be without their first-choice goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, for the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Inter Milan.
The return leg will be held at San Siro in Milan on Wednesday. Bayern lost the first leg 2–1 at home.
Neuer picked up the injury at the start of last month during a Round of 16 win against Bayer Leverkusen — not during play, but while celebrating a teammate’s goal. He tore a muscle in his leg and has been sidelined ever since.
Bayern had been hoping for his return ahead of the second leg against Inter, but the 39-year-old hasn’t fully recovered yet.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Bayern confirmed that “although he won’t be playing, the 39-year-old goalkeeper will travel to Milan to support his team.”
The winner of the tie will face either Barcelona or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals.
