Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany remains confident his side can turn things around at San Siro as they prepare for a crucial Champions League quarter-final second leg against Inter Milan.

The German giants are under pressure after suffering a 2-1 defeat in the first leg at the Allianz Arena last week. But Kompany is eager to experience a “special night” in Milan and believes his team has what it takes to bounce back.

In the first leg, Bayern dominated the game with their attacking display but couldn’t make the most of their chances. Inter Milan took the lead in the first half through Lautaro Martínez. Bayern equalized in the 85th minute with a goal from veteran forward Thomas Müller, but just two minutes from full time, substitute Davide Frattesi scored the winner for Inter.

Speaking on the eve of the second leg, Kompany expressed his excitement and optimism:

“Sometimes, special nights come along — the kind that decide the outcome of battles. In the last match, we had our chances. Hopefully, tomorrow (Wednesday), we’ll get more opportunities, maybe not as many, but enough.”

Following the defeat to Inter, Bayern also dropped points in the Bundesliga with a 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund. The league leaders are currently struggling with injuries to several key players.

Attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala, defender Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano, Hiroki Ito, and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer are all sidelined. Still, Kompany has full faith in the players available to him.

“We are missing key players, and despite this crisis, we’re 100% confident that (goalkeeper) Johannes Urbíg and the rest of the team can get the job done. They’ve shown they can fight, and I believe they can deliver the kind of performance that will bring us the result we need.”

“At the end of the day, we must win. That’s always the goal, no matter what happened in the first leg. I’m hopeful that tomorrow will be one of those special nights.”

If Bayern manage to overcome Inter, they will face Barcelona in the semi-finals.
