Everton 0 – 2 Manchester City
Back-to-back wins see Pep Guardiola’s side climb back to fourth in the league table.
Manchester City weren’t at their dazzling best at Goodison Park, but they turned up when it mattered most, sealing a valuable win late in the game.
Pep Guardiola’s men earned a 2-0 victory over Everton in Saturday’s Premier League clash.
It marked City’s second consecutive win and extended their unbeaten run to five matches.
With 17 wins and 7 draws from 33 games, City now sit fourth with 58 points. They leapfrog Nottingham Forest, who have 57 points from 32 matches.
The game had a slow start. In the 15th minute, City had a half-chance when Matheus Nunes fired from outside the box, but the Everton keeper handled it comfortably.
City gradually gained more control through possession but failed to create clear opportunities. In the 31st minute, they were lucky not to concede as James Tarkowski’s header from a corner rattled the post.
Everton started the second half brightly and had a golden opportunity in the 61st minute. Abdoulaye Doucouré found himself with a chance but couldn’t beat Stefan Ortega, who made a superb diving save.
In the 72nd minute, Omar Marmoush broke through the defense and squared it to Savinho, but Jordan Pickford showed strong hands to deny the young Brazilian forward.
The breakthrough finally came in the 84th minute. From the right wing, Nunes squared the ball into a crowded box, and young midfielder Nico O’Reilly poked it home to open the scoring.
Then, in the second minute of added time, substitute Mateo Kovačić put the game to bed. After receiving a pass from İlkay Gündoğan, the Croatian midfielder slotted it in with a composed right-footed finish.
Everton, who’ve now lost 11 of their 33 matches, remain 13th on the table with 38 points.
