Barcelona’s star striker Robert Lewandowski is now a major doubt for two of the club’s most important fixtures of the season — the Copa del Rey final and the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
The Polish forward sat down on the pitch, clutching the lower part of his thigh, signaling for a substitution. Moments later, he was taken off by the coach, raising serious concerns about his fitness ahead of the decisive matches.
According to several Spanish outlets, initial medical assessments suggest Lewandowski has suffered a hamstring strain. If confirmed, the injury could sideline him for two to three weeks.
That timeline would rule him out of the Copa del Rey final, where Barcelona are set to face arch-rivals Real Madrid next Saturday in a high-stakes clash for the trophy.
Uncertainty also looms over his availability for the Champions League semi-finals. Barcelona are scheduled to take on Inter Milan across two legs — on April 30 and May 6.
Lewandowski sustained the injury during Saturday’s La Liga match against Celta Vigo. He left the pitch in the 78th minute after experiencing discomfort in his leg. Despite being 2-0 down, Barcelona pulled off a dramatic 4-3 comeback win at home.
Having scored 40 goals this season, Lewandowski’s potential absence is a massive concern for the Catalan club. After the match, Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick addressed the media:
“Lewandowski will undergo an MRI tomorrow (Sunday). We have to wait for the test results to know more about his injury.”
Barcelona’s next match in La Liga is against Mallorca, scheduled for Tuesday.
