Arteta eases fears after Saka subbed off against Ipswich
Despite continuing after a heavy tackle early in the game, Bukayo Saka was taken off midway through the match against Ipswich Town, raising concerns of a fresh injury.
Fans grew worried after seeing the English forward receiving treatment on the bench and having ice applied to his leg. The sight sparked fears of another setback. However, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta later confirmed there’s no cause for concern.
Saka, who recently returned from a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for over three months, has been in excellent form. He played a key role in Arsenal’s Champions League quarter-final win over Real Madrid, leading the attack in both legs.
In Sunday’s Premier League clash, Saka looked threatening from the start, causing trouble for the Ipswich defense. Arsenal dominated the game and secured a 4-0 victory. But in the 32nd minute, defender Davis was sent off for a dangerous foul on Saka—one that required immediate treatment. Though Saka continued playing, Arteta substituted him in the 57th minute.
He was later seen on the bench with ice wrapped around his leg, which only fueled speculation about a possible injury. Arteta, however, reassured everyone afterward.
“I didn’t see the tackle — it happened very quickly. The referee made a good decision. He (Saka) was in some pain, but thankfully, it doesn’t look like anything serious.”
While Arsenal cruised to an easy win, their hopes of winning the Premier League title are all but gone. Liverpool, currently top of the table with 79 points from 33 matches, need just one win from their remaining five games to seal the title. Arsenal trail behind in second place with 66 points.
Up next, Arsenal will face Crystal Palace on Wednesday in the Premier League before turning their focus to the Champions League semi-final first leg against PSG on April 29.
