Sørloth breaks 96 year old La Liga record with stunning Hat-Trick

“He’s changed the course of matches before, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in the dying minutes — but this time, Alexander Sørloth made history.”

The Norwegian forward has broken a 96-year-old record in La Liga, scoring the fastest hat-trick in the league’s history. He found the net four times in the first 30 minutes, putting his team on a clear path to victory.

At Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium on Saturday, Sørloth delivered a masterclass against Real Sociedad, leading Atlético Madrid to a dominant 4–0 win. He took four shots on target — and scored with every single one.

The record-breaking moment began in the 7th minute, when Sørloth latched onto a cross from Pablo Barrios and converted it with his left foot. Three minutes later, he doubled the lead with a sharp strike from the edge of the box. Just 60 seconds after that, he completed his hat-trick from close range.

By the 11th minute, he had already rewritten history. The previous record for La Liga’s fastest hat-trick was held by Spanish midfielder Carles Bestit, who scored one in 15 minutes back in 1929. That record was later matched by forward Edmundo Suárez in 1941 — until Sørloth shattered it.

Then, in the 30th minute, Sørloth added a fourth. He controlled a pass from Javi Galán inside the box and fired home — again with his left foot. All four of his goals came from that same lethal left.

The 29-year-old forward is now Atlético’s top scorer in La Liga this season, pulling ahead of Julián Álvarez, who has 15 goals.

Sørloth also scored four goals in a single La Liga match last season — playing for Villarreal — when he helped his side hold Real Madrid to a thrilling 4–4 draw in May 2024.

With this emphatic win, Atlético Madrid remain in the title race. They sit third with 70 points from 35 matches, five points behind second-placed Real Madrid and nine behind league leaders Barcelona — though both those teams have a game in hand.
