Under coach Hansi Flick’s leadership, Barcelona has transformed remarkably—winning the Spanish Super Cup, Copa del Rey, and now clinching La Liga.
While the team has some experienced players, most of the squad consists of young, talented footballers. Some may not fully realize their potential yet, others lack confidence, and some are still developing. What was needed was to unite everyone under one vision and build a foundation of trust in their hearts. That’s exactly what Hansi Flick has done, leading to incredible success. Winning three trophies in his very first season as Barcelona’s coach, the German coach is ecstatic about his team’s achievements.
On Thursday, Barcelona secured the La Liga title with a 2-0 win away against Espanyol. With two matches still left, Flick’s team has a seven-point lead over Real Madrid, clinching the league.
Back in January, they beat Real Madrid to win the Spanish Super Cup. At the end of last month, they also defeated their arch-rivals in a thrilling Copa del Rey final.
Although Barcelona fell short in the Champions League semifinals and missed out on the treble, they still bagged the domestic treble. Adding to their glory, they achieved the rare feat of beating Real Madrid four times in a single season.
Barcelona started the league brilliantly but fell behind for a while. However, they made an impressive comeback and went unbeaten from late December to the end of the season, ultimately tasting championship glory. The coach expressed his satisfaction after the triumph.
“We always wanted to stay positive and we could feel that in our training sessions. Winning trophies is a must at a club like Barcelona, and this time we won three, which is fantastic.”
“I think especially in the second half of the season, we were outstanding. We didn’t lose a single match — that’s simply incredible. Congratulations to the whole team, the entire club, and the supporters. We are very happy with what we have achieved.”
At one point, Real Madrid had a nine-point lead. But Flick never let the team lose hope. He said their January Super Cup win over Real Madrid strengthened the team’s belief.
“Mental strength is very important. We wanted to stay strong all year, and winning the Super Cup in January boosted our confidence. It was great to see how the players reached new heights and how others improved.”
On the field, the players gave their all. Young stars like Laminé Yamal and Pedri emerged as the season’s brightest lights. Rafinha and Robert Lewandowski brought their valuable experience. But behind it all, one person stands out.
Coach Flick shared that his main goal since taking charge was to build strong bonds within the team.
“I don’t think I had much time to explain this throughout the season, but I put a lot of emphasis on creating a culture and a family atmosphere within the squad. We had to work hard with intense drive and a strong mentality.”
“Now, seeing this family come together is amazing. The way we look after each other is unique. I’m thrilled.”
Laminé Yamal, Barcelona’s teenage wonderkid, truly became a global star this season, delivering breathtaking football throughout. He even scored a stunning goal against Espanyol to help secure the league title.
The 17-year-old star is attracting worldwide attention, but Flick reminded everyone that the achievement is a team effort.
“This is Barcelona’s La Liga. It’s not about any one player. Laminé is certainly important, but we are a team, and that is what matters most. Everyone did their job well. We are a team. This is exactly what we wanted. We have shown the club’s best form, and the supporters can be proud.”
Barcelona’s next match is against Villarreal on Sunday. On their home turf, Flick’s team will likely celebrate their title even more joyfully.
