Sevilla 0 – 2 Real Madrid
Even against a nine-man Sevilla side early in the second half, Real Madrid had to work hard to find the back of the net.
“Sevilla went down to 10 men in the 12th minute. Early in the second half, they were reduced to nine. Yet Madrid couldn’t break through for a long time.” A shot that rattled the crossbar only added to the frustration. But finally, in the 75th minute, Kylian Mbappe found the breakthrough. Jude Bellingham later doubled the lead, securing a much-needed win for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
With the 2024–25 La Liga title already sealed by Barcelona, this match was more about finishing strong and sending off their coach with a win. And with a 2–0 victory, Real Madrid did just that.
Madrid now sit second in the league with 81 points from 37 matches, and one final game remains — against Real Sociedad.
The drama began early. Just minutes into the match, Sevilla were reduced to 10 men when Loïc Badé received a straight red card for a foul on Mbappe. Despite the numerical advantage, Madrid couldn’t assert control in the first half.
Late in the half, Mbappe tried to break through down the left wing, managing to shake off Nemanja Gudelj before sending a powerful shot just wide of the far post. Then came a scare for Madrid — Jakobo Ramon lost the ball near his own box, and Garcia Pascual failed to capitalize, blasting the ball wide with only the keeper to beat.
The first half ended goalless. Madrid had 61% possession and six shots, but only one was on target. Sevilla managed four shots, one on goal.
Early in the second half, things got worse for Sevilla. Substituted on at halftime, Isaac Romero fouled Aurélien Tchouaméni. Initially shown a yellow card, the decision was upgraded to red after a VAR review — Sevilla were now down to nine men.
Madrid pushed harder. In the 60th minute, Valverde’s effort, set up by Modric, was cleared off the line by Nemanja, but it wouldn’t have counted due to an offside flag. In the 71st minute, Mbappe struck the crossbar again.
Finally, in the 75th minute, the French forward broke the deadlock with a powerful low shot that beat the diving goalkeeper.
The win was sealed in the 87th minute, when Bellingham scored with ease at the far post, finishing off a smart headed pass from Garcia.
Meanwhile, Barcelona lost their match, shrinking the gap between the two giants. After 37 games, Hansi Flick’s side have 85 points, while Madrid are now just four behind on 81.
