After the 2023–24 season, Jürgen Klopp stepped down as Liverpool’s manager. At the time, he cited exhaustion as the main reason for his departure, following a highly successful stint that saw him lead Liverpool back to the top. After leaving Anfield, Klopp took some time off to rest. In October 2024, it was announced that he would return to football—but not as a coach. Instead, Klopp took on the role of Red Bull’s “Head of Global Soccer,” a position he has held since January 1 of this year.
Recently, however, rumors have been swirling again about Klopp’s possible return to the dugout. There were whispers linking him to both Real Madrid and the Brazil national team. But Brazil has already appointed Carlo Ancelotti, and Xabi Alonso is now widely expected to take over at Real Madrid.
As a result, speculation about Klopp’s coaching comeback began to die down—especially after his agent, Marc Kosicke, firmly stated that there is currently no chance of Klopp taking over at either Real Madrid or Brazil.
Still, the coaching rumors haven’t gone away. Italian outlet La Stampa recently reported that Klopp has had a change of heart and is set to become the new manager of AS Roma.
The report even claimed that Klopp had spoken with Roma president Dan Friedkin about managing the team and taking charge of star player Paulo Dybala. Allegedly, Klopp told Friedkin that he’s ready to step in as a replacement for Claudio Ranieri.
As expected, the story caused quite a stir and spread quickly. But before the hype could grow any further, Klopp’s agent Kosicke poured cold water on the speculation.
Speaking to Qatar-based media outlet WinWin Sports, Klopp’s agent said: “The news that Klopp is becoming AS Roma’s new manager is not true.”
With that statement, fans hoping to see Klopp back on the touchline will have to wait a little longer.
