Barcelona delighted as Hansi Flick signs new contract after memorable season
Barcelona are thrilled to have secured the German coach for a longer stay at the club.
After a remarkable season filled with success, Hansi Flick has signed a new contract with Barcelona that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2027.
Flick led the team to three domestic titles this season — La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup — and the club has officially confirmed his contract extension.
The coach, who previously won a treble with Bayern Munich, went on to manage the German national team. However, his time there didn’t go as expected, and he was sacked in September 2023.
Flick joined Barcelona last year as the replacement for Xavi Hernández. Under his guidance, players like Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski flourished. Despite a slightly chaotic end to last year, the team’s performances in 2024 were nothing short of outstanding.
In January, Barcelona crushed Real Madrid to win the Spanish Super Cup. They later added both the La Liga and Copa del Rey trophies to their collection. In the Copa del Rey final, they once again defeated their eternal rivals. Remarkably, Flick’s team won all four El Clásico clashes this season, scoring a total of 16 goals across those matches.
Barcelona’s board is overjoyed to have secured Flick for the long term, and their official statement reflects that joy:
“Hansi Flick has brought great happiness to Barcelona fans in his very first season: by building belief within the team, scripting epic comebacks, and delivering trophies.”
“In just his first season in charge, he has reignited excitement around the club and made Barcelona a feared force in Europe once again. Under his leadership, the team has won 43 of 54 matches, with a win rate of 73% — the best debut season since Luis Enrique’s 83%.”
Barcelona were also in excellent form in the UEFA Champions League this season but were knocked out in a dramatic semifinal clash against Inter Milan.
The final match of the season will see Barcelona face Athletic Bilbao in La Liga this Sunday.
