Arsenal 1 – 0 Barcelona
Arsenal Women were crowned European champions for the second time — and for the first time in 18 years.
Barcelona’s dream of winning three consecutive UEFA Women’s Champions League titles came crashing down in Lisbon. The reigning champions, who had won three of the last four tournaments, were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal in Saturday’s final.
Despite controlling most of the match, dominating possession, and creating several chances, Barcelona couldn’t convert any of them. Arsenal, under pressure for long periods, stayed strong defensively and found their moment late in the game.
In the 74th minute, Swedish forward Stina Blackstenius scored the decisive goal that secured the title for the English club.
This win marks Arsenal’s second European title, their first coming 18 years ago when they won the tournament under its previous name, the UEFA Women’s Cup.
