Luis Enrique believes that winning the French Cup has been the perfect preparation for PSG ahead of the Champions League final.
This season has been like a dream for PSG. After beating Rennes, they secured their third major domestic trophy. Now, the team’s eyes are set on conquering Europe by winning the Champions League. Enrique is confident that his squad is ready to finally claim this elusive trophy.
On Saturday night in the French Cup final, PSG dominated Rennes with a 3-0 victory. The team was in excellent form, scoring all three goals in the first half. Achraf Hakimi scored once, while Bahli Barkola found the net twice.
Since January, when PSG defeated Toulouse to win the French Super Cup, talks began about their potential to win a ‘quadruple’ — four trophies in one season. Following that path, Enrique’s team has now reached the final stage with great momentum.
PSG had already secured the Ligue 1 title long ago, and now with the French Cup victory, Enrique has tasted a domestic treble in just his first two seasons with the club.
Next Saturday, PSG will face Italian giants Inter Milan in one of the most important matches of the season. Enrique sees the French Cup win as ideal preparation ahead of this crucial clash.
“It was a very good match. The preparation for the 31st (Champions League) final went well. This final is very important. We want to make history. We are a strong team and we want to win the trophy,” Enrique said.
Now, the PSG coach wants all focus on the biggest game of the season.
“The Champions League final will be a special moment for everyone. There’s no special preparation for it. We will face a lot of pressure, but we must prepare in the best way possible. Managing everything around it is not easy.”
Enrique, who has experience winning a continental treble as Barcelona’s coach, wants to taste that success again with PSG. He aims to make history with the French club.
“Out of the possible four trophies, we have won three and are at the final stage. Hopefully, we can make history for PSG.”
“The team has shown great commitment, and all of this is preparing us for the upcoming match — the one that will be decisive and could give us the chance to make history.”
