Real Madrid are making moves early—securing Trent Alexander-Arnold even before his Liverpool contract officially ends. With a month still left on his deal, the Spanish giants have paid a fee to bring the English full-back in ahead of the Club World Cup.
The rumors were strong for months, and now it’s official: Alexander-Arnold is heading to Madrid. On Friday, Europe’s most decorated club confirmed the signing of the 26-year-old on a six-year deal.
The Liverpool academy graduate had already announced his departure from the club where he spent two decades—joining as a six-year-old and working his way through the youth system before breaking into the senior team in 2016. Since then, he’s made 354 appearances, playing a vital role in winning two Premier League titles, a Champions League, and several other trophies.
With injuries taking a heavy toll on Real Madrid’s squad throughout the season, the early arrival of Alexander-Arnold is a big boost ahead of their Club World Cup campaign. The club has struggled to keep its defense intact, and this signing comes as a welcome relief for newly appointed coach Xabi Alonso.
Alexander-Arnold, known for his versatility, can not only shore up the right side of the defense but also step into midfield when needed—a role he adapted to effectively at Liverpool in recent seasons. In total, he’s scored 23 goals and provided 92 assists for the club.
He’s also been a regular for the England national team since 2018, featuring in two World Cups and scoring four goals for his country.
With his Liverpool contract set to expire on June 30, the early transfer means the Reds will receive a compensation fee. Real Madrid begin their Club World Cup campaign on June 18 against Al Hilal, and if all goes to plan, that match will mark Alexander-Arnold’s debut in white.
