Standing on the brink of another Champions League final, PSG captain Marquinhos recalled the painful memories from five years ago.

He knows all too well how heartbreaking it is to lose a Champions League final. That bitter experience came to him while wearing PSG’s jersey half a decade ago. Now, with another chance to erase that unfinished chapter in both his career and the club’s history, the Brazilian defender is determined not to let it slip away again.

In the 2019-20 season final, PSG’s dream was shattered by Bayern Munich. To forget that pain and finally fulfill the dream of becoming European champions for the first time, Paris will face Inter Milan this Saturday.

The final kicks off at 1 AM Bangladesh time at Munich’s Allianz Arena.

Given the rare opportunity to make history by winning PSG’s first-ever Champions League, Marquinhos is adamant about seizing it. He expressed this determination clearly in a media interaction the day before the final.

“We’ve had good times, and we’ve gone through bad times. Tomorrow (Saturday) we have a beautiful opportunity in front of us. We can make history. It would be an incredible achievement for this club and its players.”

“This is my second chance to win the Champions League final, and I won’t let it slip away without a fight.”

PSG faced the threat of early elimination during the group stage of this new 36-team format. They managed to win only one of their first five matches, losing three and drawing one.

But Luis Enrique’s team staged a remarkable comeback. After winning the last three group matches, they crushed Brest 10-0 on aggregate in the knockout playoff and reached the round of 16. Then, they defeated Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal one by one to reach the final.

Having already secured all three domestic trophies this season, PSG now aims to complete the perfect campaign — achieving what no team in the club’s long history has managed before.
