The English club has secured Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan on a five-year deal.
After Kevin De Bruyne’s departure, Manchester City, weakened in midfield, has added a new player to their squad. To help fill the void left by the Belgian star midfielder, the English club signed Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan.
The 26-year-old Reijnders has agreed to a five-year contract with City, who reportedly paid around £55 million to bring him in.
Reijnders initially joined AC Milan in 2023 on a five-year deal and later extended his contract until 2030. However, with five years still remaining on his contract, the Dutch midfielder has now found a new home.
During his time at AC Milan, Reijnders played 104 matches across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and assisting nine. He also tasted success by winning the Italian Super Cup with the club.
The 2024-25 season was impressive for Reijnders personally, as he featured in 54 matches, netting 15 goals and contributing five assists. Despite his strong performances, Milan struggled as a team and finished 8th in Serie A.
On the international stage, Reijnders has earned 22 caps for the Netherlands.
Last season was a major disappointment for Manchester City. After a trophyless campaign, their midfield mainstay De Bruyne left the club. The Belgian had spent a decade with City, winning six Premier League titles, as well as a Champions League and a Club World Cup.
City ended the league in third place, still securing a spot in the upcoming Champions League. They will also compete in the Club World Cup, starting on June 18 against Moroccan club Wydad. In Group G, their other opponents are Al Ain from the UAE and Juventus from Italy.
