Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha has chosen Manchester United as his new home, signing a five-year deal after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Everything had been nearly finalized, and United wasted no time completing the formalities. In an effort to rebuild and bounce back, the club brought in Cunha, who was secured from Wolves through a £62.5 million release clause, according to a source quoted by Reuters. The Old Trafford side also has the option to extend the contract by an additional year.
Despite United’s recent struggles, Cunha is thrilled to join the club.
“Since I was a little boy watching the Premier League at my grandmother’s house in Brazil, United was my favourite English club. I used to dream of wearing that red shirt,” said Cunha, full of emotion about the move.
“I can’t wait to meet my teammates and get started with pre-season. My focus is fully on working hard to become an important part of the team and help bring this club back to the top,” he added.
Cunha, 26, scored 15 goals in 92 appearances for Wolves. Just this Tuesday, he played a key role in helping Brazil qualify for the World Cup, setting up the winning goal in their 1-0 victory over Paraguay.
Last season was one to forget for Manchester United, who finished 15th in the Premier League with just 42 points.
