Italian champions Napoli have strengthened their midfield ahead of the new season.
Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has found a new home. After a successful 10-year career at Manchester City, De Bruyne has joined Napoli as a free agent.
Napoli announced De Bruyne’s signing on Thursday through their social media channels.
Since joining City in 2015, De Bruyne has won 19 trophies, including six Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy. He has been named Premier League Player of the Season twice.
Considered one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, the 33-year-old’s contract with City expired at the end of the recently concluded season. The Belgium captain played 40 matches across all competitions for City this season, scoring six goals and assisting eight.
De Bruyne has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons, which has limited his playing time.
In total, De Bruyne made 422 appearances for City, scoring 108 goals and contributing to 177 others. Only Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs (162) has more goal contributions in the Premier League than De Bruyne’s 119.
After a fierce battle with Inter Milan, Napoli have won their second Serie A title in three years.
