Kylian Mbappé’s chances of playing in Real Madrid’s next Club World Cup match have taken another hit.
Just two days ago, the French star missed their opening game due to a fever. Now, he’s been hospitalized with a stomach issue.
In an official statement released Thursday, the club said, “Mbappé has been admitted to the hospital with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. He has undergone several tests and is receiving treatment accordingly.”
Real Madrid are currently competing in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. However, under new coach Xabi Alonso, their campaign didn’t get off to a strong start—drawing 1-1 with Saudi club Al Hilal.
Mbappé, who had an outstanding debut season with the club scoring 43 goals across competitions and winning the European Golden Shoe, was sidelined in that match due to illness.
Real are set to face Mexican side Pachuca in the second round of Group H on Sunday, but “concerns have now grown over Mbappé’s availability for that match as well due to his latest health setback.”
