Real Madrid’s next match in the Club World Cup carries some uncertainty over whether French star Kylian Mbappé will be able to play.
Mbappé was hospitalized with stomach issues but has since recovered significantly. He has now returned from the hospital to join the Real Madrid squad.
After a trophyless season, Real Madrid are currently busy with the Club World Cup, having already played one match—one in which Mbappé was absent.
The French forward missed the 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal on Wednesday after falling ill with a fever on Tuesday.
The club later confirmed that Mbappé was suffering from vomiting and diarrhea and was admitted to hospital. However, he was discharged just hours later and returned to the team’s training complex in Palm Beach, USA.
The club’s statement said that Mbappé will continue treatment and is expected to rejoin regular team activities once fully fit.
Real Madrid will face Mexican club Pachuca in the second round of Group H on Sunday. Yet it remains unclear whether Mbappé, who has scored a record 43 goals across all competitions in his debut season with the club and won the European Golden Shoe, will feature in that game.
