The excitement is already building for Spanish goalkeeper Juan García, who can’t wait to dive into his new challenge at Barcelona.
After finalizing his contract with the club, García delivered a confident promise—to give everything to the team and help them win.
“I came here to win,” he said with determination.
Barcelona had been eyeing the young shot-stopper for some time. On Wednesday, they finally reached an agreement with his former club, Espanyol, paying his €25 million release clause.
García signed a six-year deal with Barcelona on Friday, committing his future to the club until June 30, 2031.
The 24-year-old Spaniard shared his excitement and goals after completing the formalities:
“I’m very happy. I’ve really been waiting for this day, and finally, it’s here. My goal is to keep improving as a goalkeeper and win as much as I can—to achieve great things with the team. That’s why I came here.”
With García’s arrival, Barcelona now have four goalkeepers in the first team squad: Marc-André ter Stegen, Wojciech Stanśni, Iñaki Peña, and the newly signed García.
Ter Stegen, 33, has been Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper for nearly a decade. Though injuries kept him out for much of last season, he returned for the final two matches.
Meanwhile, 26-year-old Peña is rumored to be seeking regular game time and could leave the club this summer, potentially opening up a greater role for García in the near future.
Barcelona clearly see the young keeper as a long-term investment, and García himself is eager to rise to the challenge.
“This is a great team, and the project with so many young players is very exciting. I already know about some of them, and I’m really looking forward to working with everyone here.”
“I see myself as a brave goalkeeper. I have quick reflexes and I’m confident in the air,” he added.
