Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at the Saudi club until 2027 at the age of 40.
The uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s club career future has finally been cleared. The Portuguese superstar has signed a new two-year contract with Al Nassr.
The Saudi Pro League side announced this news in a statement on Thursday.
After leaving European football behind, Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in December 2022 in a dazzling $200 million deal. The 40-year-old’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of this month.
Recently, there were many rumors about his future. After losing to Al Fateh last month in the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo wrote on social media, “This chapter is over. But the story? It is still being written. Grateful to everyone.”
Many interpreted his “chapter is over” message as a possible farewell to Al Nassr. FIFA president Gianni Infantino twice mentioned that Ronaldo could be seen in the upcoming 32-team Club World Cup starting mid-month, which fueled further speculation about a potential transfer. Several possible new clubs were also rumored.
Meanwhile, Al Nassr director Fernando Yerro said the club has been making every effort to keep Ronaldo. Their efforts have now come to fruition.
After signing the new contract, Ronaldo wrote on social media, “A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let’s make history together.”
Having signed the five-time Ballon d’Or winner two and a half years ago, the previously ‘unknown’ Saudi Pro League quickly became a global talking point. Although Ronaldo hasn’t tasted many trophies with the club, the former Real Madrid forward has continued to shine with his individual performances.
So far, Ronaldo has scored 93 goals in 105 matches across all competitions for Al Nassr. Chasing his 1,000 career goal milestone, the star currently has 938 career goals.
Ronaldo remains a key member of the Portugal national team and recently celebrated his second UEFA Nations League title with his country — a record-scoring international legend.
