Although Kepa Arrizabalaga has chosen a new club, a guaranteed spot in the starting XI is not assured.
After playing for two different clubs on loan over the past two seasons, Kepa has now picked a new home. The Spanish goalkeeper has left Chelsea to join another Premier League club, Arsenal.
Arsenal officially announced the signing of the 30-year-old player in a statement on Tuesday. The club did not disclose contract length or transfer fee details, but according to British media reports, the deal is for three years and worth £50 million.
Kepa joined Chelsea in 2018 from his childhood club Athletic Bilbao for a record £71 million, becoming the world’s most expensive goalkeeper—a record he still holds.
Over five seasons at Chelsea, Kepa appeared in 163 matches. He won the Europa League in 2019, the Champions League in 2021, and the Club World Cup in 2022.
Last season, he spent on loan at Bournemouth, and the season before that, he was loaned to Real Madrid. At the Spanish giants, he tasted victory in both the Champions League and La Liga.
At Arsenal, Kepa will wear the number 13 jersey. He will have to compete with David Raya to earn a place in the starting lineup.
