With the draw between Bahrain and Turkmenistan, Bangladesh has officially secured its place in the main stage of the tournament from Group C, making history by qualifying for the Women’s Asian Cup for the first time.
Bangladesh had already done their part by defeating the hosts Myanmar. The draw between Bahrain and Turkmenistan in the other match sealed the deal. Bangladesh booked their ticket to the main event of the Women’s Asian Cup for the very first time.
On Wednesday in Yangon, Bangladesh beat Myanmar 2-1. Meanwhile, Bahrain and Turkmenistan played out a 2-2 draw. With two consecutive wins and 6 points at the top of the group, Bangladesh’s qualification is now certain.
Currently, Myanmar sits second with 3 points. Bahrain and Turkmenistan each have 1 point, and with one game remaining for both teams, neither can surpass Bangladesh’s tally.
Only Myanmar has a chance to match Bangladesh’s points. They will face Bahrain next Wednesday, while Bangladesh’s Afida and Rituporna will play Turkmenistan the same day.
If Myanmar wins against Bahrain, both teams will be level on 6 points. But since Myanmar lost to Bangladesh in their head-to-head, they have no chance of overtaking Bangladesh to reach the main stage.
