Canadian star forward Jonathan David has joined Juventus on a five-year deal.
After announcing his departure from Lille at the end of his contract, David has now taken a big step in his career by signing a new five-year contract with the Italian giants. The most prolific goal-scorer in Canadian history is now a Juventus player.
With his Lille contract expiring, David became a free agent before sealing the move. His new deal with Juventus runs until 2030.
According to Italian media, the 25-year-old will earn €6 million per season at Juventus, with the potential to earn an additional €2 million through performance-based bonuses.
David was born in New York to Haitian parents, though his family returned to Haiti when he was just three months old. At the age of six, they moved to Canada, where he rose through various youth academies before turning professional.
He signed his first professional contract at 18 with Belgian side Gent. In 2020, he joined Lille, where he had an outstanding spell. Last season alone, he scored 25 goals and assisted 12 more across all competitions.
In total, David netted 109 goals for Lille, making him the third-highest scorer in the club’s history. He also holds the record for the most European competition goals scored for Lille — one of which came against Juventus in the 2024 Champions League.
For Canada, he stands as the national team’s all-time top scorer with 36 goals.
Juventus, the record 36-time Serie A champions, had a disappointing last season. They were recently knocked out of the Club World Cup in the Round of 16 by Real Madrid. Ahead of the new season, they are aiming to rebuild — particularly up front, where Dušan Vlahović’s inconsistent form left a gap. Now, they’re counting on David to fill that void.
