Luis Enrique’s team had to play almost the entire stoppage time with just nine men on the field.
After a series of missed chances and a long wait, the match burst into life in the final stages. Desire Doue put PSG ahead late in the game, but moments later, they were reduced to 10 men. That opened the door for Bayern Munich to push for a comeback. But by the end of regulation time, PSG lost another player. Even with a few minutes left to play, Bayern couldn’t capitalize on their numerical advantage—instead, they conceded again. With that impressive win, the European champions booked their spot in the Club World Cup semi-finals.
In the quarter-final clash in Atlanta on Saturday, Luis Enrique’s PSG defeated Bayern 2–0. After Doue’s opener, substitute Ousmane Dembélé sealed the win with a second goal in the dying minutes.
PSG had a golden opportunity just three minutes into the match, but from a great position, Doue failed to keep his shot on target. Bayern responded shortly after with their first shot on goal—Michael Olise’s effort lacked power and was comfortably saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
In the 27th minute, Donnarumma came to PSG’s rescue again. Olise unleashed a powerful strike, but the Italian keeper tipped it away for a corner, keeping the score level.
PSG’s first three shots missed the target, but they began to find their rhythm. In the 32nd minute, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia tested Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who made the save. Moments later, Jamal Musiala’s attempt was also denied by Donnarumma.
The deadlock nearly broke in the 49th minute when Bradley Barcola’s angled shot from inside the box forced a brilliant save from Neuer.
At last, in the 78th minute, PSG found the breakthrough. From just outside the box, Doue struck a low left-footed shot into the near post. It wasn’t the most powerful strike, but Neuer slipped and couldn’t react in time to stop it.
Doue had scored twice and been named Player of the Match in PSG’s 5–0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League final last month. Once again, the young forward led the way for his side.
But the drama wasn’t over yet. Just four minutes after taking the lead, PSG were reduced to 10 men. Defender Willian Pacho received a straight red card for a foul on Leon Goretzka.
Then, in the opening minute of the six minutes of added time, PSG suffered another major blow. Luca Hernández, who had come on just 10 minutes earlier for Doue, was sent off for elbowing Bayern’s Raphaël Guerreiro in the face.
Despite being down to nine men, PSG maintained their attacking intent. Within three minutes, Dembélé’s shot rattled the crossbar. But moments later, he made no mistake—latching onto a pass from Achraf Hakimi and doubling the lead.
Late in the match, Thomas Müller went down in the box under a challenge from Nuno Mendes, prompting the referee to award a penalty. That gave Bayern a glimmer of hope. However, after consulting the VAR monitor, the referee overturned his decision.
That removed any lingering uncertainty about the result. In their treble-chasing season, PSG moved one step closer to yet another title.
In the semi-final, they will face either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund.
