Bangladesh have slipped one spot in the latest FIFA rankings, now sitting at 184th. There’s been no change among the top five, while Portugal—fresh off their UEFA Nations League triumph—have moved up to sixth.
On March 25, Bangladesh played out a goalless draw against India in the Asian Cup qualifiers in Shillong. That result had helped Hamza Choudhury’s side climb two spots to 183rd in the rankings. But a 2–1 home defeat to Singapore on June 10 in the same competition has now cost Bangladesh valuable ranking points.
In the most recent FIFA rankings released today, Bangladesh dropped one position to 184th. Since June last year, FIFA has updated the rankings eight times—and Bangladesh have remained stuck between 183rd and 186th during that period.
Compared to the previous update, Bangladesh have lost 5.15 points, bringing their current total to 899.01. Just ahead of them is Brunei with 900.62 points. Singapore, after defeating Bangladesh, climbed two spots and now sit at 159th.
Bangladesh’s highest-ever FIFA ranking was 110, achieved on April 24, 1996. However, a steady decline in on-field performance has seen the ranking fall over the years. In 2018, Bangladesh hit their lowest point at 197th.
World champions Argentina continue to top the rankings. Although Lionel Messi’s side beat Chile 1–0 in the June World Cup qualifiers, a 1–1 draw with Colombia cost them 0.8 ranking points. Argentina now have 1885.36 points.
There’s been no movement in the top five: Argentina are followed by Spain, France, England, and Brazil respectively.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal climbed one spot to sixth after winning the UEFA Nations League in June.
