Chelsea’s English midfielder Cole Palmer is overjoyed after winning the Club World Cup and being named the tournament’s best player — especially after beating PSG in the final.
Before the final, no one expected Chelsea to stand a chance against the treble-winning Paris Saint-Germain. But Chelsea delivered a dazzling performance, defeating the European champions and lifting the trophy, proving all doubters wrong. Palmer, the hero of the victory, couldn’t be happier.
On Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Chelsea crushed PSG 3-0 in sweltering heat of over 29°C. Despite the intense weather, Palmer kept his cool, scoring two goals within eight minutes to single-handedly shape the match’s outcome.
Palmer also assisted Chelsea’s third goal, setting up Joao Pedro to finish brilliantly.
Not only was Palmer the man of the match, but he also claimed the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player. Across six matches, he scored three goals and provided two assists.
Back in May, Palmer had already impressed by winning the best player award in Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over Real Betis in the Conference League final, assisting twice. His joy at shining on big stages again was clear when he spoke to DAZN:
“I love playing finals. I’m glad I was able to perform well once more.”
Palmer also expressed satisfaction in proving the skeptics wrong in the final:
“This win feels amazing. It’s even better because no one gave us a chance before the match — and we knew that. The way we fought was fantastic.”
Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca praised Palmer’s performance but credited the whole team’s effort:
“We always expect great performances from Cole Palmer in matches like this, and once again, he showed what he’s capable of. Of course, Cole played very well, but every player’s effort was outstanding.”
