The experienced English midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the Premier League club.
Jordan Henderson’s move from Ajax to Brentford was all but confirmed — now it’s official. The experienced English midfielder joins the Premier League side on a two-year contract.
Brentford announced the signing of the 35-year-old on Tuesday, marking Henderson’s return to English football less than two years after his departure. The veteran midfielder had previously spent over a decade at Liverpool.
Henderson, a Premier League and Champions League winner with Liverpool, left Anfield in late July 2023 to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq — a move many believed marked the end of his European football journey.
However, his time in Saudi Arabia didn’t go as planned. After just six months, Henderson left Al-Ettifaq and signed with Dutch club Ajax in January 2024. But the two parties mutually agreed to terminate the contract a year early.
Rumors of Henderson joining Brentford had been swirling ever since — and now it’s a reality. He joins the club on a free transfer.
After spending nearly 18 months out of the national team, Henderson was recalled by England coach Thomas Tuchel for the World Cup qualifiers in March. Now, with regular Premier League action, he’ll have a better shot at staying in Tuchel’s plans for the next World Cup.
Henderson has earned 84 caps for England but wasn’t part of the squad for Euro 2024.
Brentford finished 10th in the Premier League last season.
