Spanish club Atlético Madrid has reached an agreement with Brazilian club Botafogo to sign Thiago Almada.
The 24-year-old World Cup-winning Argentine midfielder is set to join Atlético Madrid. The club confirmed on Tuesday that they have finalized a deal with Botafogo to bring Almada on board, though no detailed terms of the contract have been disclosed.
According to media reports, Atlético could sign Almada until 2030, paying Botafogo around €21 million for the player.
Since his debut in 2022, Almada has played 10 matches for Argentina, scoring 4 goals. Primarily a winger, he appeared in one match at the Qatar World Cup that same year.
Almada joined Botafogo in July 2024, where he contributed to the team’s victories in the Brazilian Serie A and Copa Libertadores.
Earlier this year, in January, Almada was loaned from Botafogo to French club Lyon. Now Atlético is set to make the transfer permanent.
In total, Almada has played 26 matches for Botafogo across all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists. For Lyon, he featured in 20 matches, scoring 2 goals and assisting 5 times.
