Marcus Rashford’s performance against Barcelona in the Europa League caught the attention of the club’s president.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta had already expressed his desire to sign Rashford ahead of Nico Williams and Luis Díaz. Now, he has revealed the reasons behind that decision.

Laporta is thrilled to have secured the English forward from Manchester United. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, he showered praise on Rashford.

“We are very happy because a young player with outstanding motivation and high quality has joined Barça. One of his key qualities is his sincerity.”

“He dreamed of playing for United his entire life. He joined them at the age of seven and wanted to be a ‘one-club player.’ When a player says that with such sincerity, it’s truly special.”

However, Rashford’s time at United ended differently than planned. He spent the latter part of last season on loan at Aston Villa. Now, seeking a new challenge, he has joined Barcelona on loan. Laporta is confident the winger will do well at the club.

“When the unexpected happened, he chose Barça — his favorite team. He played against us, and Barça was always on his mind. He has said his biggest motivation is to win the Champions League with Barça and the World Cup with England.”

Manchester United coach Ralf Rangnick had questioned Rashford’s dedication, but Laporta sees no issues.

“He came here very motivated. He is strong and excited. He’s played well with his teammates, and I’m very happy because two years ago, he lost to us in the Europa League. He made a difference in that match, and that’s why I’m so glad he’s here.”
