The English champions have accepted a second, significantly improved offer from the German giants.
Just two days ago, the move was all but confirmed — and now it’s official. Liverpool has agreed to Bayern Munich’s “second offer” for Luis Díaz, allowing the Colombian forward to depart after a stellar season at Anfield.
Both clubs officially confirmed the transfer on Wednesday. The 28-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Bundesliga champions.
While Bayern did not disclose the transfer fee, media reports suggest they paid around €75 million to secure Díaz’s services.
Díaz enjoyed the best spell of his career last season, scoring 17 goals to help Liverpool clinch the Premier League title. Despite his form, reports had already begun to surface at the season’s end that he was looking for a “new challenge.” Since then, speculation over his next destination had been constant.
Just last week, reports indicated that Liverpool had rejected Bayern’s initial €67.5 million bid. The Reds were also said to have turned down an offer from Barcelona in the interim. But with Bayern increasing their offer, the record Bundesliga champions finally landed their man.
As expected, Díaz is thrilled with his new club and sounded determined as he spoke about his goals.
“I’m very happy. Being part of Bayern Munich means a lot to me — it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
“With my style of play and personality, I want to help my new team. My goal here is to win every possible title — and we’ll work toward that every day as a team.”
Díaz joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 and scored 41 goals in 148 appearances for the club. During his time at Anfield, he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups.
This will be Díaz’s first stint in German football, where he’ll wear the number 14 shirt for Bayern.
